The audience knew from day-one that Emma had changed the paternity results & Andrew was really Shane's son -- but everyone in Salem wandered around for a year & half, thinking Andrew was Victor's. At some point, Emma was murdered & took that secret to her grave.

Meanwhile, Shane had accepted that he wasn't Andrew's biological father. He loved Andrew (had delivered him), vowed to raise him as his own, protect him from Victor's influence, etc. When Shane & Kimberly married in May 1987, I remember thinking: "Wait. Isn't Shane gonna find out that Andrew is his??" In a way, the writers had sorta lulled us to sleep, with what a fantastic, accepting guy Shane was -- it didn't seem to matter.

Then, one-day -- out of the blue -- Kimberly & Andrew were in a car accident while Shane was out-of-town on ISA business. Andrew required a blood transfusion. Kimberly's blood type didn't match, but neither did Victor's. Everyone was stunned & thrilled -- except Vic, of course. Kimberly & Neil Curtis quickly deduced that Emma fucked with test results.

Those were the DAYS.

In the mid-aughts, I had the most delightful conversation with Kristian Alfonso about DAYS in the '80s. She revealed herself to be a HUGE Shane & Kimberly fan -- "I LOVED their story!!" She said that was her favorite period of the show -- when Bo, Hope, Shane & Kimberly were all entwined in storylines together. (Prisms/England/Miami).
