Will our Glenn be lucky on her ninth try and nab that little gold man?

by Anonymousreply 71May 6, 2024 6:56 AM

...uh huh.

by Anonymousreply 1May 3, 2024 1:03 AM

I would be surprised if this happens now. With all of the excitement around the Nicole Scherzinger revival coming to Broadway (I wasn't crazy about it in London) and ALW throwing everything at it in terms of publicity, a proshot of that seems more likely

by Anonymousreply 2May 3, 2024 1:03 AM

Omg a post where the Jessica Walter eye roll gif is actually funny

by Anonymousreply 3May 3, 2024 1:05 AM

She’ll be lucky to get a Golden Globe in the musical category

by Anonymousreply 4May 3, 2024 1:06 AM

Norma is only 50 years old. Glenn is at least twice that.

by Anonymousreply 5May 3, 2024 1:08 AM

Oh Glenn. You are 77. Lay off the reefer. No one is green lighting this project.

by Anonymousreply 6May 3, 2024 1:09 AM

She's way too old to play the part now.

by Anonymousreply 7May 3, 2024 1:10 AM

Damn, 77 and still jockeying for a pointless statue.

by Anonymousreply 8May 3, 2024 1:11 AM

But how, isn’t she dead!?

by Anonymousreply 9May 3, 2024 1:12 AM

With some prunes I can move a bowel

With Bengay, I can grab a towel

Nursing homes are not for me

Wilton Manors it will be!

by Anonymousreply 10May 3, 2024 1:13 AM

Having an actress this old playing Norma makes no sense!

Norma's tragedy is that she's been put out to pasture while still relatively young! She's been out of movies for some years when we meet her at age fifty. That is the poignancy of her dilemma.

by Anonymousreply 11May 3, 2024 1:14 AM

I wonder if ALW is humoring her in hopes she will die and her contract for exclusive movie rights will be over.

by Anonymousreply 12May 3, 2024 1:15 AM

Um, really? Bless her heart ♥

by Anonymousreply 13May 3, 2024 1:16 AM

She’ll be the first actress that actually appeared in silent pictures.

For double fun, they can have a theater playing one of her silent movies and they do a closeup on the organist and it’s the Phantom of the Opera.

by Anonymousreply 14May 3, 2024 1:17 AM

Will Patti be there?

by Anonymousreply 15May 3, 2024 1:23 AM
Will Patti be there?

Patti’s busy out-victiming Mia Farrow.

by Anonymousreply 16May 3, 2024 1:28 AM

Glenn also shared that she plans to lead a colony on Mars and get pregnant and have a child on the red planet.. Nothing is impossible if you dream, says Glenn with a nervous laugh.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2024 1:29 AM

Two words, Glenn, two words...Lucy MAME

by Anonymousreply 18May 3, 2024 1:42 AM

Good for Patti. Mia is bitch.

by Anonymousreply 19May 3, 2024 1:50 AM

I'd love to see it. I think the dynamics of their two personas together sounds interesting.

by Anonymousreply 20May 3, 2024 1:53 AM

David Fincher should direct.

by Anonymousreply 21May 3, 2024 2:51 AM

I don't think Glenn is too old. Norma was 50 in the 1950 movie. They would need to adjust that age for modern audiences to buy that she's completely washed-up and forgotten. 77 is a good age for that character. I hope it works out.

by Anonymousreply 22May 3, 2024 3:02 AM

Kinda ruins the "you're 50!" P

by Anonymousreply 23May 3, 2024 3:07 AM

Nothing!a wrong with being 80, unless you’re acting 50!

by Anonymousreply 24May 3, 2024 3:18 AM

Double Feature: Glenn in Sunset Boulevard and Barbra in Gypsy.

by Anonymousreply 25May 3, 2024 3:22 AM

Geriatric sex just isn't pleasant to think about.

by Anonymousreply 26May 3, 2024 3:27 AM

Glenn will win Best Supporting Actress for playing the dead monkey.

by Anonymousreply 27May 3, 2024 3:39 AM

Gloria looked 70....

by Anonymousreply 28May 4, 2024 4:09 AM

Listen you bunch of pole smokers, I ain’t got many choices for film roles these days. I’ve got a gambling addiction and several OnlyFans subscriptions to finance. It’s either this shitty movie or Fatal Attraction 2: Full Beaver, Wet.

by Anonymousreply 29May 4, 2024 5:31 AM

R29 Split wet beaver.

by Anonymousreply 30May 4, 2024 5:43 AM

Is Glenn hoping to win an Oscar when she's 80, like Jessica Tandy?

by Anonymousreply 31May 4, 2024 6:55 AM

Me and my itchy cooter are here for it, Y’all!

by Anonymousreply 32May 4, 2024 7:01 AM

The new Streisand's Gypsy

by Anonymousreply 33May 4, 2024 7:02 AM

Isn’t she too old now to play Desmond?

by Anonymousreply 34May 4, 2024 7:28 AM

R26 you're forgetting Glenn came *this close* to an Oscar for The Wife just a few years ago, where she gets finger-banged in the opening 5 minutes!

by Anonymousreply 35May 4, 2024 8:08 AM

She is too old. Norma is 50. 50 in 1950 is not 80 in 2024. 50 year old women in 1950 such as Norma were in shape and sexually viable. Also they are often going through menopause, which is a shading to Norma's situation and her sexual and emotional gambits around romantic love.

by Anonymousreply 36May 4, 2024 8:15 AM

Wait, Norma looked ancient in the film. Anyone can play that character at any age as long as they’re over 50.

by Anonymousreply 37May 4, 2024 8:25 AM
Two words, Glenn, two words...Lucy MAME

That makes no sense. Glenn played the part on stage. She can sing. Lucy had and did none of that.

by Anonymousreply 38May 4, 2024 8:27 AM
She's way too old to play the part now

Age is a state of mind.

by Anonymousreply 39May 4, 2024 8:35 AM
Glenn played the part on stage. She can sing.

How do you define “sing”?

by Anonymousreply 40May 4, 2024 12:26 PM

Glenn, two words - "South Pacific"

by Anonymousreply 41May 4, 2024 12:35 PM

Is she playing Max?

by Anonymousreply 42May 4, 2024 2:07 PM

"A 50-year old women in 1950 such as Norma were in shape and sexually viable."

Wrong. 50 in 1950 meant white hair, wrinkles and sitting on a park bench feeding the pigeons. Your life was over.

by Anonymousreply 43May 4, 2024 3:12 PM

Do they give out Oscars to [bold]basic[/bold]cable actresses?

by Anonymousreply 44May 4, 2024 3:19 PM

I thought they had a director a few years ago ? It was some guy who was known for directing a Broadway musical (and everyone questioned what he knew about directing a big-screen movie musical).

What everyone seems to forget is that with today's cinematography and technological advancements, an 80 year old Close can look 50 on screen. AI can do the trick. (Same for Barbra and "Gypsy").

by Anonymousreply 45May 4, 2024 3:28 PM

Who are they going to hire to sweeten Glenn’s vocals?

by Anonymousreply 46May 4, 2024 3:34 PM

I actually hope this comes to pass. I'd love to see it.

by Anonymousreply 47May 4, 2024 3:38 PM

Eddie Redmayne *is* Joe.

by Anonymousreply 48May 4, 2024 3:45 PM
Nothing!a wrong with being 80, unless you’re acting 50!

😂

That reminds me of when fiftysomething Glenn CLose played twentysomething Nellie Forbush in the TV remake of SOUTH PACIFIC in the early 2000s.

by Anonymousreply 49May 4, 2024 3:54 PM

If 41 year old Streisand could play a 20-something year old male in 'Yentl' back in 1983, then nothing's impossible.

by Anonymousreply 50May 4, 2024 3:58 PM
Gloria looked 70....
Wait, Norma looked ancient in the film. Anyone can play that character at any age as long as they’re over 50.

Have you guys seen the movie? Norma did not look ancient.

Throughout her life, Gloria took very good care of herself, ate well and avoided the sun and such, so her face is line-free in SB.

One of the complaints about the film is that 50-year-old Gloria Swanson looks younger than her age, while 31-year-old William Holden, a drunkard, looks older than his age, so they look around the same age instead of a cougar/gigolo situation.

by Anonymousreply 51May 4, 2024 4:03 PM

except for all that smoking

by Anonymousreply 52May 4, 2024 4:08 PM
One of the complaints about the film is that 50-year-old Gloria Swanson looks younger than her age

I've been a fan of this movie forever, and not once have I ever heard such a complaint. I've heard Holden looked older than early 30s, but never Swanson looking younger than 50.

by Anonymousreply 53May 4, 2024 4:11 PM

Poor Glennie, can’t take on a project without being compared to Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson.

Gloria didn’t look her age because she was taking all that Kennedy cock.

by Anonymousreply 54May 4, 2024 4:17 PM

The story is mildewed and corny. It won't work unless the setting remains in 1950. To be a popular box office hit they'd have to hire some popular young actors who can sing.

The oldest Millennials are already 44.

by Anonymousreply 55May 4, 2024 4:24 PM

This will go one of two ways: 1) Glenn will get the "Mame" treatment and get filtered and CGI'ed to appropriate age, or 2) she'll get the "Cheri" treatment and be told she's too old for this and be asked to step down in exchange for an Exective Producer credit.

by Anonymousreply 56May 4, 2024 4:26 PM

Glenn will lose the role to Melissa McCarthy (now that she has lost all that weight thanks to Ozempic), just like Barbra lost 'Gypsy' to McCarthy (though Amy Sherman Palladino hasn't moved forward, yet).

by Anonymousreply 57May 4, 2024 4:30 PM

R53 you don't know what you're talking about.

by Anonymousreply 58May 4, 2024 5:10 PM

I think it’s rich that Glenn is still making movies while Meryl is doing a second rate supporting role on a Steve Martin sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 59May 4, 2024 5:27 PM

With John Travolta as young gigolo Joe?

by Anonymousreply 60May 4, 2024 7:05 PM

Clint Eastwood is Joe!

by Anonymousreply 61May 4, 2024 7:14 PM

Adele *is* Norma Desmond.

by Anonymousreply 62May 4, 2024 7:51 PM

The main point of casting for the Norma role should be that the actress can run up and down stairs without getting winded. They can’t go through millions of feet of film and erase all that gasping. If they hire Glenn, they’ll have to equip Norma with a silver inhaler and pretend she’s asthmatic.

No more wars to fight (hits the inhaler)

White flags fly (hits the inhaler) tonight

by Anonymousreply 63May 4, 2024 7:55 PM
Gloria looked 70....

Are you high? She most certainly did not!

by Anonymousreply 64May 5, 2024 4:42 AM

Gloria looked like Hannibal Lecter with all that face-pulling!

by Anonymousreply 65May 5, 2024 7:31 AM

R59, Meryl is one of the most successful actresses of all time -- she has 3 Oscars and a record number of nominations. Unlike Glenn, she can choose to do whatever she wants because she has already made it big. Glenn is the one who is desperate.

by Anonymousreply 66May 5, 2024 7:56 AM

Fuck Glenn Close and fuck Judy Holliday, too!

by Anonymousreply 67May 5, 2024 9:18 AM

if this has the success it had in London....

by Anonymousreply 68May 5, 2024 9:44 AM

I just don't think Gloria was robbed in 1950. Maybe it's because her performance has been imitated and parodied in the years since, but she is quite campy at times as Norma. And that voice!

Bette definitely should have won IMO for playing the iconic Margo Channing.

by Anonymousreply 69May 5, 2024 1:05 PM

Gloria did indeed look beyond ancient. 50 year olds back then looked like 60+ do now.

by Anonymousreply 70May 5, 2024 1:17 PM

R69, I think the campy aspect is meant to be part of Norma's character. She's supposed to be an overly-dramatic washed-up star from the silent film days. Gloria brought exactly the right quality to the role and that's why it's so famous. She should have won the Oscar for it instead of Judy Holliday, the latter of whom is forgotten today.
