It’s the trend for All women, especially those of a certain age who should know better. When I had long hair I wore it in a bun for work. I don’t know why this straggly look is so popular on old women. I also had it regularly trimmed straight on the ends.

After a certain age, (natural) hair that long ONLY works on arty/earth mother types and Andie MacDowell. There are no exceptions.

Men would be enchanted by my long red tresses as they watched me unravel my bun before bedtime.

Now that you mention it, extensions are probably behind the lamentable trend of women over 50 having extremely long hair, which looks good on NONE of them. It doesn't really look good on anyone over 35.

But because hair salons can make a lot of money installing extensions, it's "the fashion". Now at least it makes some sense, though why women aren't able to look in the mirror and say "That's dragging my face down, which is the last thing I need" is beyond me.
